As a child you may have wondered how babies are born… Then one day comes a new question… How are the supplì born? The stork does not bring them. Yeah, someone tried the task to the stork, but the stork ended up eating all the supplì! The supplì were born a long, long time ago in Rome.
It is said that they own their name to the time when a French soldier in Rome, finding mozzarella in the heart of the supplì, exclaimed “Surprise!”… Which was later altered to “supplì“!
STREET FOOD AND APPETIZER
The supplì have always been the favourite appetizer of the Romans and not only. Fried, crunchy and with their unique flavour, they are irresistible!
In our Roman trattoria in Valletta, they are one of the simplest and most loved dishes. After all, you know that all fried things are tasty… But when you fry the genuine rice filled with hot mozzarella, it’s a whole other experience!
SUPPLI’ OR ARANCINI…?
Never mistake supplì for arancini. Comparing Roman supplì to Sicilian arancini in Malta is not a good idea.
Apart from some common ingredients, the supplì and the arancino are completely different! Moreover, the arancino can be a lunch, whereas the supplì is only the beginning of a meal with us!
Both exquisite, do not miss the opportunity to taste both the supplì and the arancini in Malta!
Have you never tasted them?
Then maybe you haven’t yet experienced the joy of biting into that crunchy layer of breading and feeling the desire to get to the mozzarella immediately! The real pleasure of the supplì is precisely that stringy morsel of mozzarella! Imagine if you forgot to put the mozzarella in the supplì, what a regret it would be to get to the end…Without that surprise…
PERFECT AT ANY TIME
Supplì is the simplicity of flavour and can be eaten at any time of the day. But if you want some advice… Choose a summer evening and eat the supplì seated at Zero Sei while you wait for your pasta dish alla Carbonara, all’Amatriciana or Cacio e pepe!
WAITING FOR…
It is said that the real magic is in the waiting… So, we know that while waiting for the supplì the pleasure has already begun!
Feel life… Touch the sun and eat a supplì!
