Most of us are used to drink wine during meals, or to celebrate important occasions, or even to have fun with friends. We all also know that doctors often recommend to drink a glass of wine a day, during meals; but why?

Wine – especially red wine – if drunk every day in moderate amounts, brings many benefits to our bodies; here there are some examples.

 

  1. It increases the expectation of life

    It seems, thanks to some research, that those who drink wine have a 34% higher life expectancy than others. This would depend on the fact that the wine is rich in polyphenols, which help us to counteract the formation of various diseases.

  2. It helps prevent cardiovascular disease

    We are talking about one of the most well-known benefits of wine: we know, in fact, that it improves blood circulation and counteract the “bad” diabetes formation by favoring “good” diabetes.

  3. It decreases the risks associated with smoking

    Wine seems to attenuate the tobacco-created damage to the blood vessels, it also has positive effects on the endothelium: a layer of cells that covers the inner surface of the heart.

  4. It prevents the formation of atherosclerosis

    Wine helps combat the symptoms of this disease affecting the arteries: the alcohol present in wine helps the formation of nitric oxide, which helps the blood vessels to relax and to keep healthy.

  5. It improves cognitive functions

    Wine seems to counteract the appearance of Alzheimer’s and dementia and prevents premature aging of the memory cells.
